Beach = Vacation
My earliest memories of playing with my family are visits to the Ocean. Those memories are: sand in my sandwich, sandcastles, the smell of solarcaine at the end of my day, board games, and family meals with my family. (My dad makes the best sandcastles I have ever seen.)
I still love the beach: Padre Island, Rockport, Galveston, 30-A, Ke’e, Salt Pond, Poi Pu, Los Muertos, Conchas Chinas Beach, Camarones Beach, Rosita Beach, Mismaloya Beach, Anzio, Superlonga, Coco Beach, Redonda Bay...
I have added many, many beach memories over the years: snoring with beautiful fish and sea turtles with my mom and daughters in a lagoon in Hawaii, hiking down slippery winding paths and long hot jungle beaches to secret beaches, tugging on wetsuits to jump into cold winter waves, riding my bike to a local fish shop to buy the daily catch. I have a collection of little glass bottles of sand collected from beaches all over the world, the color and variety amaze me. I love the white noise of the surf, the sea spray, the wind, the salt, the seagulls, the shells. I love it all, and I love to capture it in my art. I hope these paintings take you to the beach in your imagination or memories.
